At the turn of the 19th century, the Cambridge University Press produced a new set of Greek fonts. The typeface was based on the handwriting of the Classicist Richard Porson, and cut by Richard Austin. It became pervasive in classical publications in Great Britain and the United States of America. Monotype released a version in 1913, which GFS Porson is based on, although it retains the upright capitals of the original.
